CFDS

All clients at Frederick & Oliver invest or trade using CFDs (contracts for difference). This is a way of trading on deposit, for example, if a client wants to buy £10k of stock in Barclays Plc they would need to ‘put up’ £2k (20%) to undertake the trade and would be subject to the gains or losses on the position, just as they would be with a traditional share purchase.

However, it is not the deposit aspect of the product that we champion – it is the flexibility and range of markets accessible that we believe investors and traders should welcome to their arsenal.

By flexibility we mean, the ability to ‘short sell’ as well as buy… this is the practice of profiting from falling prices – investing in reverse. Traditional investors seek value and an appreciating market, however markets decline on occasion – this is where investors and traders without the ability to ‘short sell’ often give their portfolio gains back to the market.

Typically our clients buy and sell UK and US blue-chip stocks. From time to time one might wish to trade other assets such as commodities, currencies and indices – and with good reason too. In today’s world we’re only ever a Trump tweet or a Brexit development away from a crash or spike, and to have access to additional markets aids diversification.
